Two Brand New Paintings

Lavender and White Poinsettias- Torn paper flowers along with orange and red florescent flowers. Green leaves line painted with acrylic ink. Poinsettias also outlined with acrylic ink. A bold background with magenta and pink paint. Graphic circles on the background and a wallpaper vase with graphic dots in different sizes.

This red dancing star on a paynes grey background with texture. The star has it’s gold finery on for the holidays. A green garland floating around the dancing star with gold leaf and red berries.

Both of these paintings can be used year round depending on your decor. They don’t need to just come out at the holidays. They are also originals where you will not find copies in stores.  Very unique products.
Fine art prints make great gifts also. The sizes that these are printed, make it easy to frame them in ready made mattes and frames. Take a look at the store. Here is the link. Remember to shop small and buy local.

Inspiration

I really enjoy HGTV magazine, it is always so colorful. This was from October of 2015 and the flowers on the front really grabbed me and that’s where I got the inspiration for my latest painting “Orange Bouquet”.

Orange and blue are one of my favorite combos. I selected my orange, orange red, florescent orange, quinacridone red-orange, a Target paint named carrot and randomly placed them on the canvas until I decided it was full enough. I knew that once I started adding to them, then the flowers would become much larger and fuller and fill in. The vase I drew in and then painted over with titanium white to give it a base so it would be easier to put whatever color I decided on. The background also has a couple of hearts.

This book I picked up at a second hand book store in Bar Harbor Maine. It has the most wonderful close up pictures of birds in their habitats and I use it all the time. I don’t like to just guess with animals or birds or insects because I will leave key elements out. I find actual pictures and then make a loose rendition of the critter. It’s more fun for me in my own style.

This is the finished painting of “Orange Bouquet”. The flowers were built up with acrylic paint and molding paste. Some of the flowers have three different colors of paint along with fine iridescent gold paint (my favorite) and bronze paint. Torn paper roses, white flowing vines with yellow-green tiny berries. The vase ended up being Prussian blue. Little hummingbird was cut out of yellow green wallpaper and then the other elements were painted on. The actual canvas size is 18 X 18 and a 11 X 11 print can be purchased in my shop for $25.00 plus shipping.

The Evolution of a Painting

I wanted this painting to be on a 36 X 36 stretched canvas and I had in my mind a blue sky with various blues. Along with this I added white and a little hot pink to give some lavender hues. Texture is very important and I added molding paste to fluorescent pink and orange to make the snapdragon flowers pop out under the blue sky. Wallpaper was used to make the leaves.

This sky outside of our window one day looked so similar to my painting I had to add it in.

The flower building began. There is a combination of two different photographs that caught my interest using the kinds of flowers and colors. The little white trailing flowers are also made with titanium white paint and molding paste.

Adding splotches of wanna be flowers all the way to the bottom.

Then they needed to be bigger and bolder.

The various background greens were added from very dark to bright lime.

Leaves and stems were added along with interest marks and flower colors were changed. Yellow flowers were changed to various oranges and each flower has some fluorescent color added. I named this painting “Under the Blue Sky”. It is for sale and email me if you are interested.

New Painting

A painting I started a few weeks ago. I pictured rows of hearts with a neutral background.

The words were added first before the details.

I have added a lot of fun elements along with outlining the hearts.

A flying bird

flowers

The bottom hearts are indigo.

Added some violets and a caterpillar.

The profile needs some decorations.

A cat stretching with a butterfly on it’s nose. This was a fun painting to create. It will be up in my shop this week to purchase prints. I haven’t picked a name yet.

New Painting-Earth Peace

I started this painting on a 10 X 10 canvas with the idea of an angel and a dimensional earth. For the earth I used half of a Styrofoam ball and wrapped it with plaster cloth. I let it dry for three days until it did not feel damp., then I painted it with acrylic paint. The halo is very thin jute braided and glued on with heavy gel medium. The earth is also glued on with a good layer of heavy gel medium as it is not heavy at all.

The finished painting. Generally I do not use a well known quote but I felt that this resonated with everyone as a song. We all need to work on Peace by being kind to our earth, to fellow man and to our animals. The owl is of course representing wisdom and the hearts love. I really really liked the gold that I used for the halo and her dress. It was the first time I opened this bottle and it is Golden brand Iridescent Bright Gold (Fine) and also the first time I used golden Quinacridone Magenta as in the flowers.

Wrapping around some of the images on the side for interest.

The opposite side. This is up in my Etsy shop if you would like to purchase a print. As always, thanks for stopping.

Completed In The Pines

When I started building this painting my main vision included the different size pine trees. I cut out different sizes from wallpaper and originally was going to use many less. I then added all  the rest and liked the way it looked. The background was originally much different with many different greens. It didn’t make the picture and I painted over it with Paynes grey and Chromium Oxide Green. I wanted it to be dark like the inside of a forest.

Here is the completed painting of In The Pines. I really love the sky, it has a lot of movement and the sun is Van Goghish. The words are Take Our Hearts For A Walk In The Woods….And Listen To The Magic Whispers of Old Trees. There are many interesting elements to this painting. Look closely to find the pine martin peeking through the trees. I have posted this in my shop if you would like to purchase a print. The size will be printed as 8 X 14.5 on 11.7 X 16.5 archival paper and ink.

I will be adding this painting to my booth when I set it up in Columbus, Ohio December 2 through 4. If you are in the area please stop by. My shop link.

In the Pines

This is just the bare bones start of a new painting. My paintings are usually based somehow on moments in my life that leave deep feelings and memories. We had to make the trek up to Minnesota to take our son to camp in 2011. We crossed into Duluth which by the way is fabulous with the shipyards and Lake Superior. We drove into the woods and I had never seen so many pine trees! It was awe inspiring.

Unfortunately I had a computer crash and lost most of the pictures from that trip. I did come across this one of Burntside Lake. We rented a really cute cabin at Burntside Lodge. This was out our window. We could hear loons and wolves howling. It was very neat and memorable. So the painting is based on my memories of Minnesota. I have many ideas to go.

Here is an early watercolor of mine that I painted of one of the cabins in the woods by the lake. Till next time……have a beautiful weekend!
