staying busy

Staying at home is not a whole lot different from my regular work day so I am not feeling it like many of you who leave home for work and interact with many children and adults. I do miss going to visit my son who lives across town and we would go out to eat, etc. For now we use messenger face to face and it will do, it’s good to see his face.
I was going to Physical therapy but have graduated and now I just plan a quick trip to the grocery store.
Tom’s job has been deemed essential, so he goes to work every day and also both our sons work for the same company and it has been deemed essential. I worry about them getting the Corona Virus but they are working and having a paycheck and then they would be worrying if they didn’t have that.

I ask every day, do you feel well, are you washing your hands, not touching anyone, yada yada. Probably rolling their eyes as I say it, but I am allowed.

I take walks around the house and around the neighborhood.
These crocus always cheer me, especially the purple ones.
We really could use a little more sun.
When I go outside there is always someone at the window watching me. The six of them are used to having me home and when I take a short trip, it is like I have been gone for months, rubbing, circling and talking, it is like having six dogs.
We have gotten take out a few times and also cooking a lot at home. Chili and Bar Cookies for this night. As I have gotten older those beans give acid reflux, how irritating. Has anyone else noticed this?
My bird feeders were beat up over the winter and also had holes and I lost much feed. When ever you buy a new feeder it takes a while for the birds to find it, it has been about two weeks now. On the old feeders I saw birds looking over the moldy feed that was stuck and I thought they would flock here saying thank you, thank you! Not so……must be practicing social distancing.
This last Saturday was National Quilt Day and so I though I would put a quilt on the porch. This is a crazy quilt made by someone way back in my husbands family. It is over a hundred years old and I use it for a tree skirt at Christmas. It is two sided and the other side has 2.5 inch blocks. Since my art is so colorful I decided that a painting on the door would be really pretty. I have decided to do it everyday and change quilts and paintings. Since my art shows are cancelled until who knows when this is a nice way to show my paintings making it look cheerful since we have to distance ourselves. This painting is titled “Bobs Hideout”.
The next day the other side of the quilt and my poppy painting “Live Out Loud”, shows well on the black door.
A quilt top of my own that I need to finish. The painting is “Oh Happy Day”. I have had fun doing this and hope that my neighbors see and enjoy it. I plan to keep it up for awhile until I don’t.
This girl is a stinker. She will bite one of the other cats if she wants to lay where they are sleeping. One of the other cats started to tap the catnip box so I put some on a plate. Look where this girl is laying….in the middle of the plate. Her face is ornery just like her.
As I had mentioned earlier many art shows have been cancelled and all of us don’t know when the virus will go down. I am going to be putting originals on my shop. I didn’t do this before because I would have been taking them with me. This new painting “Big and Beautiful” is for sale. It is 36 X 36 and if you are interested email me. Look closely there is a cat peeking at you.
My paint the sides also so that there is no need for a frame. It will come with a hanging wire and a nice write up about me and the painting.
I really like this side, it is pretty.
This is another new mixed media painting “Among Friends”. It looks really bright and pretty on my wall and would do the same for yours. There are so many interesting elements in this painting and it is enjoyable to look at.
Like all my paintings I have painted the sides and really enjoy this one.
I am very partial to these poppies, love this French Bulldog and the three birds are a redheaded woodpecker, prinia and a cardinal at the top. I will be putting this one on my shop also. It is 22 X 28. For both you can also purchase prints and note cards.

Summer is my time to do the art show circuit to earn a living so if you are so inclined to have a colorful and happy painting or print or a pack of note cards I would be so glad to send them to you. I do all the printing, packaging and mailing. Click here to go to my shop.

Stay well and safe and may everyone get along. sometimes that’s tough.

Musings and Pictures

I have come to a conclusion that I will just do one blog post per week. Blog posts take a while to put together, getting all the pictures that I have taken from different devices downloaded and sized to fit the web. I am taking pressure off myself, (totally self imposed anyway) to schedule just one on Sunday or Monday. I will catch you up on my musings of the week then.

These three canvases are going to be prepped soon with gesso. I have sketched the “Big Ideas” down and are ready to implement them onto canvas. Having the blank canvases there gets me itching to pick up a brush, they are the catalyst to get the move on.

I took a quick picture of the WIP or work in progress. This is a 10 X 10 canvas and I wanted to get a couple of smaller paintings done for the Rural Artist Studio Tour. My studio is at the southern end of the county and these artists are in the northern part of the county, but the Fort Wayne Artists Guild is going to participate with a pop up gallery which is exciting. The Rural Artist Studio Tour takes place on May 4, 2019. Below is the map of the studio tour. I will be working the tent from 2 pm to 4 pm.

This painting is going to be titled Bugs and Blooms.
I hope you take the time to go to the working studios. The FWAG will have the pop up tent and then there will be artists painting too. Please support your local artists and buy some original art and see where it is made.
The other painting will be 12 X 16 and these two pictures from our vacation in Maine will be the inspiration for it, plus others. This was July of 2017 and I am recalling that may be the international space station that was visible along with the crescent moon.
I was up very early one morning, 3:30 and was able to catch this magnificent sunrise. My painting may be titled, Sunrise on Frenchman Bay. Those colors!!

If you follow me on Facebook you will see that I was in Novi Michigan last weekend at the Great Lakes Art Fair. There are so many positive things to say about this show. It is inside, the booth spaces are large, electricity is not and additional cost, we artists can drive our vehicles in to unload, but the attendance was so poor that it just didn’t cover expenses. First warm weekends in a cold climate just kills an indoor show. People want to be outside.

This car I was behind when going back to my hotel. The front end of the mattress kept lifting up as they were driving down the road. It was tied down with string not rope. Have you ever gotten behind someone like this? I kept picturing it flying off, slam banging into my car, windshield breaking, scratches and dents. They turned off and I hope that they made it to their destination safely.

These bloomed while I was gone last weekend during the warmth, little daffodils are so sweet. I planted 60 various bulbs last fall and I am seeing things start to make their way through the mulch

We save up to have a landscaper come and clean up our beds, trim back bushes, lay new mulch. They get it all done at once and it stays nice for many months. I planted two new trees last fall and I am happy to say that they are budding out. We have had a lot of precipitation and it should be a good spring.

We are doing some renovations in the lower level. Some new flooring, painting, moving things around. Kevin is getting Sams old bedroom, Tom is making Kevin’s old room his exercise area. The guest room gets a facelift along with the hallway.

I am going to stain trim pieces for the bedrooms. The flooring will be installed on the 22nd and 23rd. It will be great when it is done.

I tried to participate On Instagram….March meet the maker. It was supposed to go all the way through March. I am terrible and I cannot keep it up. I think I did four or five days. I was a good thought.

We have had some interesting water fowl come to the pond recently. They are some kind of diving ducks. I wondered if these were some kind of Mergansers. If you know please make a comment.
Then we had some swans stop by for a moment or two. This was a first that I had seen.
There they were flying away.
This rolly polly sky is neat too, taken a day ago.

Till next Sunday or Monday. Have a good week!

My first outdoor art fair of the season is next weekend, May 15th. I am working diligently to get as many paintings done as possible. I started two new ones today. They are in the very early stages. I love the colors in the wide one. It looks like a sky, ocean and beach….but it is not. They are very soothing colors.
