Colors

DSC_0637

Bold colors, bright colors, I love them all. This was on the clearance shelf at Walmart and I couldn’t pass it up. It looked like a quilt, it had great colors and geometric pattern.

A letter I painted for the word Artist. The red and the geometric pattern again.

A color wheel I had made in art class. I blended these colors from the primary colors. We were to make an interesting color wheel.

All my watercolor paints so I can see their true colors instead of from the outside of the tube. This was so much fun to make.

DSC_0874

Just a bit of my painting Serenity. All the bold colors make me smile.

DSC_0875

Here is a piece of my painting Teal and Blue. I love the teal flowers with the red middles. I think the reds look like cherries. I especially like the bit of white to set it off.

DSC_0876

Same painting only the yellow flowers with the textured petals beside the blue and orange vase. So bold and happy.

This little bluejay is also one of my favorites with the multi-colored wing and the crown. Just a fun bird carrying a sunflower seed. It comes from my painting Happy Birds.

Prints can be found of these pictures in my Etsy Shop.
From the book The Best Loved Poems of the American People,  here is one of my favorites.
Try Smiling
When the weather suites you not,
Try smiling.
When your coffee isn’t hot,
Try smiling.
When your neighbors don’t do right,
Or your relatives all fight,
Sure ’tis hard, but then you might
Try smiling.
Doesn’t change the things, of course–Just smiling,
But it cannot make them worse– Just smiling.
And it seems to help your case,
Brightens up a gloomy place,
Then, it sort o’ rest your face– Just smiling.

May you have a colorful day!

Serenity Painting

Painted Blossoms

As I think I recently mentioned that I had purchased this book because I was quite taken with her paintings. It is just a beautiful book that has so many elements in it. Fantastic flower images, great quotes, the basics of tools, elements, colors and inspiration. Then it also talks about yourself and creativity and nurturing this. It not only has inspiration from Carrie but other artists also. It can be found on Amazon of course, but I bought it from North Light Shop. I offers a lot of information for creative souls.

I had purchased some more pastel acrylic colors by Liquitex recently and decided to put them to the canvas on this painting. Then I stenciled the sun with embossing paste tinted with paint.

Serenity with watermark

Here is is all finished and scanned in. What a difference scanning makes with the clarity and color! I also added my beloved poppies and purple asters. I didn’t want the word to take away from the flowers so I made it very quiet like the word but still getting the point across.

and the balloon flower. I had so much fun with this painting!

Newsy stuff….. I had submitted this painting “Happy Birds” to The Brave Girls Club because they are always calling for art with birds. This is for a daily feature sent out by email called “A little Bird Told Me”. Then they choose a feature that day. Mine was chosen for Wednesday and that was such a good feeling. I felt very honored! Have a fantastic weekend….and as always….Thanks for stopping.

Framed

DSC_0562

Picked this picture up on Thursday. It is one of my newest works and I had it framed at Michaels Crafts. I am very pleased with the way it turned out. I just picked out a frame and had them cut two mattes. I am giving this away to a friend along with the next one.

They are printed on archival paper by a high quality Epson art printer.

It only took two years

DSC_0226

I have had these next two prints for at least two years or longer. They are from an artist Diana Sudyka who’s business name is Tiny Aviary. Click here for the link. She lives in the Chicago area and all her paintings include a natural element. I am drawn to all the activity that is happening in these two pictures. This first one was based off a children’s book illustration. I love the two kids with the rosy cheeks. I also really liked the jack-in-the-pulpit. It is called “The Wonders of Nature”.

DSC_0227

The next one is called “The Backpack”. The owner left the backpack and the birds are unpacking it and putting the contents in the tree. There are boots, pots and pans, binoculars and a compass to name a few items. It reminded me of the childrens book “Caps for Sale” when the salesman went to sleep with all his caps on his head. The monkeys came along and took his caps and hung them in the tree.

We then hung the ornate refurbished frame I found in an antique store. ” Happy Birds” mixed media painting was hung inside it. I really love this look.

DSC_0229

It was hung in the landing of the stairway.

DSC_0230

It picks up the colors in the grandmothers flower garden quilt.

DSC_0232

They were hung on the Great Room wall beside a drawing I did in Art Class.

DSC_0234

The drawing was based on a project called the faces of God. We had to make it our interpretation and I divided mine into four areas with rain and a rainbow, thunderstorm, sunshine and snow. I included young pictures of my boys and nature like irises, sunflowers, trees. One of my favorite drawings from school. Thanks so much for checking in.
