Just a Few Favorites a little at a time

My friend Cathy would feed the birds daily. I just loved the quail that would come running to eat the seed on the ground. They were so cute and this is just one of many that would come out from desert.

I did not get to see a real Javelina but I think this has to be one of the cutest after all they don’t seem to be just another pretty face. This was found in Tubac which was a wonderful town full of art.

Cathy and Marks neighbor makes these sculptures. I have pictures of quite a few. They were amazing and I am sure heavy. They have a lot of rebar on them.

This was taken out of the window looking at the mountains. I cannot remember which ones they are but the sunset was bouncing off this. The white plants are cholla.

We went to a raptor show and I was standing at a perfect spot because the birds landed in that dead tree. The is a great horned owl and his head is turned around.
We drove through the Barrio Viejo in Tuscon where these houses of the late 1800s – early 1900s have been revitalized. They are very colorful with a lot of desert landscaping.
A hill with many Saguaros with lots of arms. You are seeing water drops in the morning. We were on our way to the desert museum. I have many more favorites but this was enough for now. It was a fantastic trip and our hosts were so accommodating. They had a beautiful home and this desert was not how we thought it would be. It was fun to go somewhere that we had not experienced before.

Original Art For Sale – Aim for the Moon

I made this painting three years ago and so many people say they love it, but the right person hasn’t come along yet to give it a good home. It took quite a while to make because the wings on many of the birds are strips of wallpaper. All the birds are made with wallpaper but I then painted over areas. The owls are, from top to bottom….Great Horned, Snowy, Barn, Saw-Whet and Burrowing with adolescent. The burrow is made with molding paste and acrylic paint. The size is 18 X 24 gallery wrapped canvas. If you are interested and would like to talk about this painting please contact me.

A wise old owl sat on an oak, the more he saw the less he spoke. The less he spoke, the more he heard. Why can’t we all be like that bird?

This is a collaboration between my son Kevin and myself. He cuts the boards and sands them then I paint and design

My finished painting…Aim for the moon, if you miss, you may hit a star….w. clement stone. I loved the journey of designing this and deciding with each step what direction the painting will go. It was great fun. My goal is to have fun and I did. Thanks for sharing this with me.

Shapes

DSC_0598

Sharing layer one of my owl mixed media painting, just the shapes right now. In front of the moon is a great horned owl, you can just see the shape. Next comes a snow owl, then a barn owl, a sweet little saw whet owl. At the bottom a burrowing owl with the baby in the burrow. Keep checking back for progress, this is really going to be a fun picture to put together! Hope you think it is interesting and as always….thank you for checking in.

Nature

This week we had a leafhopper check in with us. I also saw him on the pool fence too. I am sure he was the same fellow. Why wouldn’t he be?:)

At the end of May I took a snapshot of the neighbors pine tree. I was amazed at all the new pine cones it was growing only on the upper half.

Here it is last week. The pine cones are turning brown.

This Great Horned Owl is so cool. My brother-in-law Keith took this picture. It was sitting on the fence behind their house. To me it looks like his head is turned around because those have got to be his tail-feathers. Such a wise and serious face.

This Luna Moth decided to stop by for a few hours and hang around. It lost the two long hangy wings so I wonder if it has a harder time flying. Those decorations on the wings look like they are painted on.

I follow a blog that does much journal drawing. She is always stopping and drawing the pods left over from the flowers and they are very neat. So here I snapped a photo of daylily pods and I think I got an extra bug on it for good measure. They are interesting and the blog is Dispatch from LA…dispatchfromla.com.

Different daylily pods.

DSC_0804

Zinnia blooming from my planted seeds. They were called giants on the seed package….they are kind of tall but I was expecting a much bigger bloom. Still pretty though.

DSC_0808

Thought I would get a shot of my ornamental grass by the dryer vent. See all the lint on the ground? It is nice and full this year.

DSC_0812

The bloom looks like a fuzzy catapiller.

DSC_0806

Late season poppies. Pretty but a little worn around the edges. Have you had any interesting nature creatures or blooms stop by your home? I am very interested, tell me about them and leave me a message. Thanks for stopping!
